Voiceover Information

I have been a Voice artist for 16 years.

To contact me about your project, request a quote HERE. I’ll walk you through the process step-by-step: it’s fast and easy.

Current campaigns:  In the UK I am the voice of Eharmony, Jet2 Holidays, Aqua Credit, and Sunny Finance (coming out Sept 2013), Puma mobium Online and LinkedIn Talent Pipeline. I also voice the Downton Abbey Audiobooks ‘Above Stairs’ and ‘Climbing the Stairs’ by Margaret Powell.

I trained as an actress at Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and worked in theatre for 14 years in the UK before landing the voice of Eharmony campaign whilst filming in LA, and then began to do VO full time. Now, I live and work mostly in LA. I like to get on with the job of bringing your copy to life, engaging the target demographic, and creating a fun and efficient work rapport where I nail the tone and feel of what you are looking for quickly. Being a trained actress goes part and parcel of this work  – especially in videogame, animation and audiobook work – I am trained to quickly engage a target audience, and create meaning. I am also a writer; so sensitivity to your text and it’s interpretation is important to me.

I have my own home studio with patch, and access to ISDN close by, and pride myself on a professional and speedy turnaround.

My ‘sound’ is often described as the following: confident, quirky, natural, sincere and authoritative. I am grateful to be paid to make dry copy sound warm, inviting and friendly, and for bringing authentic human connection into the work. I am an actor, but also find voice work exciting and inspiring.  I have particular interest in projects with a global humanitarian focus, that are ethically sound. I am an active campaigner in the abolition of slavery, rape in the military, and violation of human rights. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you think I can help you out.

I work in E-learning, educational and corporate VO, videogames, animation, IVR, ADR, documentary, audiobooks and narrative reads for all sorts of contexts and of course, commercials!

A brief foray into broadcasting was also fun – I had a radio show for a year in 2009 entitled ‘the Mary Wells Experience’ for KCLA which was a 5 minute feature show about the adventures of being a newbie in LA, described as ‘a relevant irreverent mix of feature and talk’.

Donut Wald advertising agency / Eharmony

“This campaign was enormously commercially successful, and Mary, as the indisputable voice of eHarmony in the UK throughout the whole campaign (radio, tv and internet broadcasting) was central to this success. The marriage of this particular campaign and her talent was so successful that she was demoed for work conducted by our agency in the USA too.

Each advert features various real couples who met via eHarmony, and the constant voice throughout who guides the viewer / listener through the narrative of the experience is Mary’s. eHarmony is different from other dating websites as it focuses on matching people based on deep compatibility so it’s success lies in appealing to those who wish to find long lasting love. The subtle undertones of character, class and intellect in Mary’s voice, as well as the particularities of her British accent suggest to our audience that they are more likely to meet a life partner of character, class and intellect if they join the service. Her voice was crucial to conveying our message to a finely honed demographic, and it clearly showed in the statistics that it worked.”

 Simple Story Videos / Brightcandle

“We recently worked with Mary as the Voice-Over talent for a few of our explainer videos. To state that she was a pleasure to work with would be an understatement. Mary listened to our requests and the direction provided but was not afraid to take initiative and put her own spin on things- which made the end product even better. Mary is a true professional and her experience speaks for itself in the quality of her work. She hits every timeline and always produces only the highest quality work. We will be sure to recommend her to our clients in the future at every chance we get!”

Moxie Post Media Productions

“I hired Mary to do a very last minute voice over for an animated video for a large PR agency. She was prompt in returning emails and calls and even helped us when there was a late night revision to the script. Her read was perfect and our British client was very pleased with her accent. Mary was a total pro and I’d hire her again in an instant.”
